Hi everyone and welcome to my channel!
This channel is about electronics, micro-controllers and software. It's basically a collection of my projects and things which I've found to be interesting. You'll find lots of tutorials here too - the tutorials usually tell you how to wire up and code certain modules, etc. My videos are mainly just me talking while the camera is focused on the object in question, you may hear small people from time to time!
Common themes which my videos might revolve round:
My off grid solar power station.
Modules and how to code them.
Micro-Controllers.
Cheap components.
General electronics tutorials.
Thanks for stopping by!

An old safe/lock-box from when I was a kid - full of old notes and coins!
This is the most bizarre electronics video you'll ever see!
Basically, I've been having a massive clearout. I discovered this old box from when I was a kid. It's full of old coins and notes, some of which I collected when I was very young, some of them are old coins that I found in my gardens, and some of them are more recent, but all of them are interesting.
Why would there be so many old coins scattered in my gardens? I don't know.
Anyway, I found this stuff so interesting to look over. I hope you enjoy it.

Testing old Lithium Polymer (Li-po) batteries after 4 years of no use! They're brilliant!

About 4 years ago, I ripped loads of battery packs out of second hand tablets, and then split the batteries down. I overcharged them (for some reason) and stored them. I tested them with a voltmeter and a 1ohm load. To my surprise, the batteries are in brilliant condition, with only one puffed up. For the past two months, I've been going on a sort/tidy/organise rampage. I've cleared out a lot of stuff! This video is me going through a box of modules. What are the modules, and what do they do?! I was excited. I bought this stuff years ago and never got round to doing anything with it all. What do you find most interesting?

I'm talking about an annoying problem with my old variable power supply. I still have no idea what's wrong with it! The bridge rectifier blows and also two diodes near the mosfets. Many other components appear to be unharmed. It's a High-Side problem. I've replaced the diodes and bridge rectifier and it blows again! What's going on!?!

Hi everyone, For about a year, I've not been able to use my scooter. I've recently got two very large projects out of the way, and now I have time to play around like I used to. A while ago, I diagnosed the problem to be a faulty cell (off camera). I replaced the cell, (off camera) but it still didn't work. I determined that the BMS was faulty. I guess I could repair the actual BMS, but I bough...

Hi Antony, how I can change this code for microcontroller, I want to know about millis() in microcontroller.
In my case it automatically goes down vol help
Hi , very informative video. I have one doubt if we need to write the value from the micro-controller to input register how can one should approach please guide regarded this. take this as in put don't generate output.
This procedure still works years later, with the following differences: The library can be downloaded directly into the Arduino IDE using Library Manager and selecting AdaFruit ST7735 and ST7789 Library. The example file will be found under File\Examples\AdaFruit ST7735 and ST7789 Library\graphicstest. Remove the options relating to different types of boards and simply define TFT_RST, TFT_CS and TFT_DC as per the wiring described here. Make sure the option to compile "For 1.44" and 1.8" TFT with ST7735" is the active one. The graphicstest sketch then should run as is. Removing the #include for the 7789 version of the display will save some program space. I have used both the black and the green tab initializer and I can't tell the difference.
Do you have to have an arduino on both sides? If I wanted a very simple sensor, can I just power the transmitter side and pulse it's data line or does the Tx just not work without the processor?
The King James Bible £2 coins are worth about £30 / £40 each.... the 50p coins are all worth something.
WAT IS THE CHARGING WIRE CLASSED AS SCRAP??
I threw a lot out. I didn't scrap them.
@@AntonyCartwright WHY?
I was fed up with stuff hanging around. I wanted some closure I guess.
A Schilling is 12d (12 pence) in old money, there were 240 pennies to the pound not 100 like today. "d" stood for denarius, 240 denarius weighed roughly a pound which is where we get £ from.
Wow. That's interesting! So it's Roman! I learnt that £ is actually Lb! And that is a pound, a weight!
Thank you Antony, you are a great teacher. I enjoyed your kid. Shalom
Thank you for the video. This was very helpful in getting me started on Maui bluetooth. Very helpful indeed. I had to wrap the DisplayAlert() with MainThread.BeginInvokeOnMainThread() to stop an exception when running on windows. but otherwise, worked well on Android and Windows. Cheers.
When the output of systemctl is locked up just press the letter q lowercase.
Hi Antony. I always keep old plugs...for wiring to something else. And always keep those old large heavy plugs...because inside them is a TRANSFORMER and those are linear supplies and give a WAY cleaner output compared to modern switching supplies. They are rare now and quite prized (particularly by ham radio enthusiasts) for their lack of switching noise. Old doesn't always mean worse, especially in their case.Oh, and those ends are called spade connectors, as i am sure you remember that now.
Ahhhh yes, I guess you're right about everything, but I feel as though I can't cope with having so much stuff around me anymore (for some reason). It's affecting my mind. I have to have it more organised and simpler! 🙈 I'll be back to doing more interesting videos soon!!
Cool stuff. I used to collect old coins and notes. My oldest coin that i still have is Roman (around 150 AD) that my grandfather found back in 1921, that was inside two old broken urns (i.e. one inside the other) with some charcoal. I have kept them all together. Turns out the charcoal was an old Roman soldier's charred remains and the coin was inserted to pay Charon, the Ferryman, to transport his remains across the river Styx, and onwards to the Underworld. Pretty cool find. That was in Kent. My grandfather was a great guy. Thanks for the show and tell. Glad things are going well for you.
That's fascinating. It's sooooo old. What coin is it? Kent, so we have a very rich Roman history here too in Chester (Deva). There are many findings here, a lot of which are on show locally. Yes, it's good to do something different isn't it?
Hi Antony. You are just a tiddler, yet...lol. I remember, as a boy, using farthings (one quarter of an old penny). I could get a farthing chew (toffee) from my local shop. And twelve old pennies made one shilling. And twenty shillings made one old pound. And twenty one shillings made one gold guinea. One crown was five shillings or a quarter of a pound. And half a crown was two shillings and six pence. And there were 240 pennies in one pound.
Haha, they didn't half make that unnecessarily complicated! I don't remember any of that stuff, but then I was born in the 80's. I remember buying 1p sweets though. These little sweets and their corner shop type hosts seemed to die off at around 1998 when huge supermarket chains took a chokehold in the area. There were some nice things about those times, but I do think generally things have changed for the better.
The mains lead is called a figure eight :)
Yes! That makes sense!
It hurts me to watch this. It's against my DNA. So I live in a mess. It's a curse
Haha! As long as it doesn't affect your mental health, that's fine! 🤣
@AntonyCartwright when i download the .zip file from radiohead and follow the directions for putting the library into the sketch, ask_transmitter and ask_reciever dont show up. is this a problem with radiohead or can i fix it somehow?
how far can the RF range cover in within plain sight and in building?
I'm having a hell of a time just getting the receiver tuned. Pretty sure the one I got is just bad out of the box because it doesn't draw any current at all from my bench power supply.
Sorry, this might be a stupid question on my behalf, but where do you get the IDs from? Do you generate them yourself or do you get them from somewhere? More specifically where do you get the device id from?
Pm me can you install do sola battery...
Oye te amo
That's impressive. I should go through my accumulation of old Li-po cells as well. Some of them were quite ancient when I salvaged them . I can't imagine they have all fared as well as most of yours.
I overcharged them also! Did you notice one was 4.4v!? 🙈
@@AntonyCartwright Impressive you didn't manage to cause some "excitement" with that.
It's amazing how well good quality lithium batteries last, I recently broke down the battery pack from a 15 year old Toshiba notebook which had been sat in the back of a drawer for the best part of 10 years. The 18650s from the pack were marked as 2500mAh and on test they ranged from 2080-2150 mAh.
Yes, I have a proper tester here. I can't wait till I get time to play around with it! I've got some testing to do!
will you give a tour of the room/workbench after it has been cleaned? i watched all your videos and all I saw was your hands and the table. I don't know how the room started and how it ended 🤣
Yes, I'll do that!
Just ruined your concrete
Amazing, just getting started and that's what I needed. One little thing, I hope today you use other words for MOSI/MISO e.g. Main/Sub.
Welcome back Antony, and congrats on the Masters. Yes, i remember you testing out your various wireless modules. Great fun. Take a look at the new meshtastic boards. We are going to be needing them once WW3 starts soon. They allow you to send encoded messages through your cell phone WITHOUT needing any cell signal (i.e. after the towers are hit or disabled) and they just get sent from one device to the other to the other, etc. Very clever and still very cheap.
Thanks. Oh, that's very interesting. I'll probably be going through more modules today. I've got two drawers full of more things that need organising. Maybe you'll see me later!
Owning electronics is a different hobby than building electronics.
Oh yes!
doing electronic and being tidy? do you think that posible? i stop doing diy arduino electronic thingies because of that, and i think its imposible to make something better without spend too much money on it, and if you wanna make something cheaper, you cant beat cheap chinese product. it's fun and frustrating at the same time 😁
Haha, yes. I understand.

I might end up doing the same thing. I've actually donated some stuff to a younger guy who has similar interests.

The iron in the heating water system makes it stick. It becomes a magnetic goo that makes the life of the pump harder.

It's on my channel.
Looks like a simple half bridge SMPS like the old ATX ones. AFAIK the NTC is there for limiting the inrush current into the two big caps. Those NTCs get quite hot and I've seen a lot of them die just of age and heat. But if you just short it instead of replacing it, the inrush current may kill everything in it's path, including the diode bridge. That would be my guess.
I'll replace the NTC then! Thanks!
@@AntonyCartwright It's just a guess. I always test repairs to these with a 100W lightbulb in series so things don't immediately blow up when there's a short.
